Street numbers
This is a picture of the sign for Castlereagh Street in the centre of Sydney. Notice the street numbers. In Australia our street numbers are always quite small. Whenever the numbers get too big, we start again! So there are some really long roads that have houses or businesses that have the same number but they will be in different suburbs. So you need to be careful to know exactly where you are!
Do you have a really big number for where you live?

I live near Seattle, Washington, USA. The street numbers are very different here than in Sydney! Our numbers tend to be long! My house number is 24304 SE 30th Street. The first 3 numbers in my address means that I live near 243rd street as well! That is the way the street numbers were developed in Seattle.
ReplyDeleteThe system is completely different in other areas of the country.

Hi Mrs Hembree
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for your comment. It's funny that there are little differences that don't mean very much on their own, but can be stumbling blocks for navigating your way around in new places. Your number certainly is a big one and having a place value issue as well... very interesting!
